You will develop skills

Starting with the basics, you will progress through to more advanced levels in the following welding techniques:

  • Manual Metal Arc (Stick)
  • Gas Metal Arc (MIG)
  • Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG)

You will also learn additional skills required by industry:

  • Health & Safety
  • Drawing interpretation
  • Marking out
  • Gas and Plasma cutting
  • Arc Air and Plasma gouging
  • Workshop skills
  • Communication skills

Workshop skills are included in the course to give trainees a solid introduction to light fabrication. During the course trainees are expected to complete several different projects. The projects involve the following skills...

  • Drilling, tapping, brazing, welding, gas cutting, grinding, sheetmetal work, folding, guillotine, spot - welding, pop-riveting, marking-out, fitting.

You will hit the ground running

On successful completion of your course unit standards, and free of charge, you may be considered to sit one or more industry-recognised welding tickets at the discretion of the Head Welding Tutor.  The selection of tickets is as follows:

            AS/NZS 2980 (replaces NZS 4711 and NZS 4703)

You will be looked after

You will be outfitted with all your own safety equipment and apparel, NZ Welding School manuals and all stationary requirements. There are no additional hidden costs.

Successful students from this course may be eligible for traineeships in Fabrication (Light Welding). With these highly desirable skills you should also be able to find employment in the Welding Engineering Industry, either nationwide or overseas. The government funded student loan and allowance scheme is available to qualifying students to pay course fees and living expenses (NZ permanent residents and citizens only). We will assist you in preparing and submitting your application forms.
